A Local Taste of the Town!

Updated: Oct 7, 2020

Do you ever scroll through Facebook and see local events or markets that you wish you could've planned for or see others venturing out in their communities more and wish that could be you? During this period of quarantine, I noticed I had not taken as many opportunities to reach out in our local farmer's markets or gone to any local tastings or live events! The golden opportunity came this weekend when our Upper Valley Farmer's and Artist's Market reopened and the Zin Valle Vineyard began their live music (all on one weekend!)

How does this impact cooking or eating? A lot of what we see, pick up at the local market or even drink, directly influences how we eat for the rest of that week or even that day. It's very easy to visit a Farmer's Market, see all of the fresh veggies or local honey, and vow to utilize it within your recipes during the week. However, it always proves to be more time consuming and less fruitful when one goes to a market, buys produce they have no intention of using, and it always ends up in the trash (I'm guilty of buying one too many eggplants...)

I've included the list of cheeses, salami, and wine that we acquired throughout the weekend for our charcuterie boards, which proved to be a fun 'pre-meal' as well as a good souvenir for the adventurous weekend!

Cheese:

  • Smoked Seaside Mature English Cheddar

  • Organic Garlic & Herb Vegetarian Goat Cheese

Supplements:

  • Tsar Nicoulai Caviar - Golden Whitefish Roe

  • Black Pepper Sliced Salami, Unsalted

  • Baguette, Whole Foods (fresh)

Wine:

  • Rising Star Sparkling Wine - Semi Dry Brut

  • "Man's Best Friend" Merlot - Medium Bodied Dry
